Fairy Godmother Dress Code

Happy Fairy Godmother Friday!

On Friday’s we like to share information about our team.  Thought today we would talk about our dress code.  We work hard to project a professional image at every event we handle.  We wear a simple black dress, pearls a flower in the color of the event and proudly our Fairy Godmother name badge.

They say image is worth a thousand words and we completely agree!

A little black dress is an evening or cocktail dress, cut simply. Fashion historians ascribe the origins of the little black dress to the 1920s designs of Coco Chanel; it is intended to be long-lasting, versatile, affordable, and accessible to the widest market possible and in a neutral color.

The “little black dress” is considered essential to a complete wardrobe by many women and fashion observers, who believe it a “rule of fashion” that every woman should own a simple, elegant black dress that can be dressed up or down depending on the occasion: for example, worn with a jacket and pumps for daytime business wear or with more ornate jewelry and accessories for evening.

Beauty Queen

All brides want to look beautiful and perfect on their wedding day. For facial beauty some brides go on diets beforehand, others do cleansing, others go to the salon, others try new creams and exfoliating washes, etc. All of this aimed toward the perfect look. Here are a few helpful tips that don’t cost anything and are the best approach to a beautiful face.

1. Try using gentle, healthy exfoliating products instead of harsh ones which will make your face look inflamed. Some suggestions are: avocado face mask, honey face mask, almond face mask, or oil pulling.

2. Don’t start your diet (if you are planning on doing this) just a couple weeks before the wedding because this will cause your body to detox, which will affect your face in  a detrimental way. Detoxing can cause inflammation, pimples, excess oil, or dry skin, all things to  be avoided at your wedding. It is best to avoid harsh, quick fix diets at this time.

3. Avoid sugar! Most important thing step to beautiful complexion. Sugar is the number one cause of facial inflammation. It may be hard to do this at this stressful time, but if you want your face looking pretty and fresh, avoid it.

4. Best way to having perfect skin is not to do any drastic, last minute detox diets, stay away from harsh face washes, don’t do sugar, and just try to eat with healthier food choices in mind. When your body is going through so much stress, don’t stress it out more with harsh new changes.

Bubble Gum Barbie Concept Shoot

Happy Magical Monday!

Our beloved Fairy Godmother Wedding and Event business continues to expand and thrive.   Many of you know us as a “Day-of” Coordination business but over the past year the “Event Planning and Design” side of the company has really taken off!  Our aim has been to listen to our client’s ideas and inspiration and (with a wave of our wands) design and execute a brilliant and meaningful event!

Recently we’ve been having some fun coming up with our own concepts and developing them to execution phase to give our clients a tangible example of how we turn their dream into reality.  In today’s blog we are thrilled to bring you images from our concept shoot!  This “event”  was inspired by my personal love for a leader in the fashion-market for over 50 years, Mattel’s iconic Barbie!  Along with our high-stylin’ gal we added some glamour, a punch of pink and a retro twist.  I think the execution of this concept came out so chic and sweet!  Can’t wait to hear what YOU think.

And, just like a wedding or event, we could have never pulled this off without our trusted and talented business partners.  From models to make-up artist and flowers to photographers…we have many allies to thank.  Our gratitude goes out to:

Thank you to an awesome team of vendors!

Happy Fairy Godmother Friday!

On Friday’s we like to share information about our team.  Today I am dedicating our blog to Denise.  She is my hero!  Denise for 4 plus years took care of her Mom.  She was determined that she would not put her in a nursing home.  There were many tough times and Denise’s mom became very feisty at the end, however Denise did not give up.  She continued to take care of her and put her own life on hold.  I don’t know of many people that would do this.  My Mom use to say “you will be rewarded in heaven”.  Well Marqaritte is now in heaven, I hope she has met my Mom they would get along beautifully and I am sure they are looking down on what wonderful things their daughters are doing with Fairy Godmother.

I am excited to be a part of Denise’s new chapter in her life!

The Gown

All women dream of the day they will get married and how perfect they will look walking up that aisle. Perhaps some dream of a slim dress with a long train, while others may dream of a Cinderella style gown with a sequined skirt. How is one to get this perfect dress they have dreamed of before at a low cost? Are you going to have to sacrifice your dreams and only settle for pretty instead of beautiful? The answer is no.

There are so many ways to get your dream dress at a reasonable price: use your grandmother’s/mother’s, go boutique and thrift store shopping, or make it yourself if you know how to sew. Most dresses are thousands of dollars if you buy them from the official bridal stores, with more money tacked on to modify the dress to make it a perfect fit. You don’t want to have to pay this much, when you can find your dress at a much cheaper price.

Though you may be cringing at the thought of wearing your grandmother’s/mother’s dress, vintage lends an elegant touch to a wedding, and most dresses you can have modified by an adept seamstress to bring it up to date. Another advantage to using a hand-me-down gown is that you are celebrating your wedding in the dress your grandmother/mother wore; it is part of your heritage. Through her wedding you came about, and now you are honoring her by wearing her gown to enter into your own marriage. Many mothers are touched when their children desire to wear their gown, which is a way is a ‘thank you’ to the mother. Many vintage styles are coming back into fashion as well, and just a little adjusting may get you your dream dress.

Boutique and thrift stores are also places to find beautiful gowns. Usually brides now days don’t want to keep their dresses. You are assured a dress that has seen very little wear and is basically brand new at a really low price. I have found in the past that if you go to boutique/consignment stores, they usually have better and higher quality selections than a generic thrift store. However, when looking for a dress at these places, make sure that you check for wine stains and yellowing, which occurs when dresses have aged for a long time. Also check for rips and tears.  Most dresses are not defective, and many of them are beautiful to begin with. A little adjusting by a seamstress is all that is needed, and you are set to go.

If you don’t want to use your mother’s gown or buy a used one from a thrift store, then sewing it yourself (only if you are a really good seamstress) or having a friend/mother (who is a really good seamstress) sew it. I stress the “really good seamstress” aspect because wedding dresses are very complicated to sew because you have so much material to deal with as well as matching the lace and applying the sequins; in other words it is no easy task. When shopping for the material, you may look at the price and gasp. However, even though the material is very expensive, over all you can sew a very beautiful wedding dress at a price that is less than 1/3 the price you would be paying at a bridal shop. Another advantage to creating your own is that you can make adjustments to the style to fit your exact preference and truly make the creation of your dreams.

These are some ways of saving money while still getting your dream dress so you look perfect for your special someone. Though dresses will still cost some money, you can get yours at a much cheaper price than if you went and bought a gown at a retail store.
