Fairy Farewell – Magical Monday

It is a mixture of happiness and sadness that we write this post wishing our dear Fairy Godmother Reagan only the best in her new endeavor!     Reagan is taking on a full-time job with the team at the Noriega House.

The time that Reagan has spent with the Fairy Godmother team has been everything we could have ever dreamed of, she has blessed our little “Fairy Family” with her attitude, her class, and her all-around fabulous presence!

In wishing Reagan well, each of the Fairies has added a little note for Reagan…

A Fairy Happy Birthday Week – Fairy Godmother Friday

In honor of Fairy Godmother Colleen’s birthday week, we are dedicating this Fairy Godmother Friday to the one and only “Mama Fairy!”

It’s only been a few years between photos, but what you don’t see is the heart full of fairy dust that we are going to share about!

Did we mention that Colleen’s fairy dust makes for the best cheerleading material?

No matter our endeavor, Colleen can always be found cheering us on from the sidelines!

After establishing Fairy Godmother, Colleen sought to give back to the community that helped her build her business, cue the birth of the Fairy Godmother Foundation.

The Fairy Godmother Foundation, and all involved vendors, donate one wedding per year to a deserving couple who are facing terminal illness, or a life altering event, that has otherwise put their wedding on hold. All at little to no cost to the couple.

This Fairy Godmother has been helping mentor and guide other growing local Bakersfield businesses as another way to give back to the community. This Fairy has wings that never tire, and that is just one of the many admirable attributes that Colleen shares with the world!

Fairy Godmother Breast Cancer Awareness Month – Fairy Godmother Friday

“Have courage and be kind.” – Cinderella

In honor of October being Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we want to take a moment to remember our dearest Pam who lost her battle with cancer last November.

Pam Huckabee

Pam was one of the founding Fairy Godmothers when Colleen set out on this business venture.

With a keene eye for detail and a strong work ethic, Pam was a true Fairy Godmother.

Pam Huckabee

Remembering Pam Huckabee

More so, Pam was considered to be a modern day Mary Poppins! No matter the situation, Pam was always one step ahead of anything you would be getting ready to do, and would know what you were thinking before you were thinking it!

Pam Huckabee

Remembering Pam Huckabee

Pam was more than just a fellow planner, she was a true friend to all that met her.

There was never a stranger around when she was in the room.

Pam made Fairy Godmother a family affair, her daughter Amy was even in on the fun!

One in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in the United States. Breast cancer is the leading cancer diagnosis in women, and the second in cancer related deaths. Men can also be diagnosed with breast cancer, but it is 100 times more likely in women.

Today, there are over 2.8 million breast cancer survivors in the United States.

Pam was an elegant and classy lady, we knew just the way to honor her at each event!

If you have paid close attention, you may have noticed the subtle addition to our flowers. Since Pammy’s passing the pearl has been added to all of our inventory of flowers, we show off the pearl with great pride!

2016 Wedding MBA – Magical Monday

To kick off wedding season, the Fairy Godmother team packed up their bags and made their way to

Las Vegas, Nevada for the 2016 Wedding MBA!

Fairy Godmother Wedding MBA

The Wedding MBA is a three day conference carefully crafted for professionals in the wedding industry. The MBA has everything from professional photographers, to well known bloggers to the best florists in the business… All have something to share about their time in the business.

Bakersfield Vendors Wedding MBA Fairy Godmother Boone & Stacie

This was Fairy Godmother’s 3rd year in attendance at Wedding MBA. We are firm believers in power in numbers! The first year only two planners attended, the second year there were four, and this year six of the Fairy Godmother team went.

Fairy Godmother Traveling

As you already know, the wedding industry is a forever changing, forever learning kind of business. With no two events ever being the same, there is always a yearning for knowledge. When professionals from all the world get together in one building, the possibilities are endless! We believe that it is a truly wonderful thing when the focus is on collaboration and there is no room for competition.

At Fairy Godmother, we call wedding planning the “happy business!” There is something so magical about taking the dreams and pieces of an engaged couple to create a magical wedding day as they shift to newly weds. With a growth in knowledge, we are able to provide an even more immaculate service to our clients, and what is better than that?!

We had the great pleasure of listening to so many great speakers, BB Webb and Linnyette Richardson-Hall just to name a few. These speakers gave us insight to new and upcoming trends, assurance of what we have been doing, and then some new tips and tricks for what we should try to implement.

Janet also finds love in pearls, diamonds and Reese’s peanut butter cups! Her favorite color is blue, and she loves spending her spare time cooking and baking in her kitchen. Aside for her love for bling, she also finds great happiness in Italian food and the beach!

img_0011

After spending many years in the legal and catering fields, Janet has found a new love for the wedding industry with Fairy Godmother. Janet says joining the Fairy family has been one of the best things to happen to her, and loves the tight family bond that we share!

For fun, Janet finds herself sewing, reading, exercising and riding her bicycle. Of course, one of her newest hobbies is working weddings and events with the Fairy Godmother squad, and how lucky we are to have her!

Wedding Wednesday – A Formal Affair Bridal Event

Happy “Wedding Wednesday!”

This week we want to invite you to Kern County’s next bridal show, A Formal Affair Bridal Event this Sunday, October 16th from 12pm-3pm at the historic Fox Theater right here in Downtown Bakersfield!

Fairy Godmother is a proud sponsor of this event and we would love to see you there!

36_20160707010618_2722869_large

We highly recommend bringing printed labels with the couple’s names, e-mail address, phone number and wedding date as you go booth to booth this may expedite your processes. It’s the bridal show version of using your debit card versus writing a check at the grocery store, you know exactly what we are talking about!

Fairy Godmother Bride

Be prepared to stay for the duration of the event. Most often, the goodies and giveaways are not raffled off until the very end of the day. When you race through an event like this, you’re truly cheating yourself out of all the fun knowledge you could gain! Plus, who wouldn’t want to spend their day with the Fairy Godmother squad?!

Fairy Godmother

Keep an open mind as you stroll through the show, you never know what ideas may stick with you! All things are possible when you surround yourself with creative wedding industry geniuses. We all work together to help you think outside of the box and put your own creative edge on your big day!

KCBA David Tutera

As a potential customer, you want to be sure to write down or take a handout from vendors that you may want to meet with at a later date to dive into deeper detail. Sometimes when you say you will “definitely remember” you completely forget. There is no need to rush through the booths at the bridal show, take your time.

These are big decisions and you want to make sure that you do your “homework” on those who you are selecting to make your dream a reality!

Fairy Godmother Bridal Booth

We would LOVE to see all of our soon to be Fairy Godmother brides in attendance, and of course the more the merrier! Come join us in helping make your day a magical event, and showcasing only the finest vendors that Bakersfield, and surrounding areas, has to offer!

Hailey and Jacob of Archer Inspired were there to capture this magical day in all it’s glory!

A little about the couple who photographed this day so wonderfully… Founder and Co-Founder, Hailey and Jacob Williams, are both Bakersfield natives who have recently relocated for Jacob’s work to Morgan Hill, California. Proving their dedication to their clients, they are still servicing Northern and Southern California! As new parents, they still find the time to provide their flawless services to their clients and give their son everything he may need and more!

National Wedding Planner Day – Magical Monday

In celebration of National Wedding Planner Day being October 4th, and the Fairy Godmother team being in Las Vegas, Nevada at Wedding MBA, we thought we would share a few little things about the wedding business!

fgm-logo-2014

Colleen – What was it like following your passion and building your own business as a female entrepreneur?

Amazing! To look back at what we have created in just 6 years makes me smile. They say if you truly love what you are doing you will never work another day in your life. What I didn’t realize is what a Fairy village we would create. One of my favorite parts is being able to mentor and coach my team. Working with them and seeing them grow is so much fun!

As I was building Fairy Godmother I didn’t think of myself as a business entrepreneur I just knew I wanted people to know who Fairy Godmother was, I wanted us to be peoples first choice when it came time to plan their event. It wasn’t until other entrepreneur’s started coming to me for advice that I realized had something to give.

I love working with new businesses. I am mentoring a newer business right now it has been fun to see some of the positive changes. One of my goals is start a Fairy Godmother mentoring business where I will take on mentoring a new business for 90 days at time. I am looking forward to doing this and helping others to succeed. I feel lucky to be a part of this “happy business.”

169005_1873028545403_1231841863_2291579_1491521_n1

Denise – What makes being a wedding and event planner different than being a professional in any other industry?

Being in the wedding and event industry has its challenges, but there is nothing better than seeing months and months of hard work come together to create the most perfect wedding day. Watching all the hard work unfold is one of the most rewarding experiences that this business has to offer. In this business you continuously get closer to your clients and that is what makes their wedding so special and unique, watching your work bring your client’s dreams to life is such a magical feeling.

Planners work with many different kinds of clients and vendors. The wedding industry is extremely social and being a planner is probably the most social vendor category in this industry. Many of us choose this career because we thrive on the excitement, the challenge, and the madness that happens on the wedding day. We live to solve problems, keep everything on time, and manage vendors without breaking a sweat. These are all the things that make being a planner so unique.

1525683_731550393524404_1161561761_n

Cassandra – What is the most rewarding part of being a wedding and event planner?

The most rewarding part of being a designer and planner is seeing and hearing all of the memories that the event is a basis for. That one moment that everyone will talk about or the grandma that made it to the wedding for the lasting photos. Not to mention that moment in planning when you see the flicker in your clients eyes and you know they’ve realized what you’ve been dreaming up together really is a possibility.

Reagan- What advice do you give couples who are looking to give a more unique touch to their event?

We always ask for the personal details of how our couples met, interests that they share and fun hobbies that they may have! We like the guests to think that pieces of the wedding exemplify the relationship to a “T.” There are so many different moving parts to a wedding that are open for these personal touches, the possibilities are endless!

Try personalizing small items at your wedding for a unique touch. Such as customized paper napkins with a motif or your initials. Personalizing the back of your chairs makes for a great picture or even projecting your logo onto the dance floor. Really dig into your personalities, find both your passions and incorporate them into a design or experience! Example, if you both really love donuts, why not have a huge donut bar or even have someone on site making them fresh, hot and ready!

1927882_10206968454223133_6557636207204950056_n

Janet- Coming from within the industry, how does being a wedding and event planner differ from other jobs?

Oh my, there is such a difference between a wedding planer and a catering manager/supervisor.

Details, details, details and time, ie., going with the bride and maybe groom and other family members to choose the DJ, flowers, food, linens, photographer, videographer, caterer, venue, etc. Keeping on top of the details and the vendors and follow up are critical in making the event a success.
Building a relationship and gaining trust with your bride or the individual with whom you are planning an event. The planner is responsible for the whole pie not just a piece or portion of it. It’s a lot of details, hard work and fun at the same time. It’s exciting.  Even though stressful at times, I call it the “Happy Job.”
14441157_1285901091444496_704993646780153460_n
Marissa- Is there anything that couples tend to forget when planning, or should firmly stand their ground on, during the wedding planning process?

I think couples tend to stray from what they truly want while planning the wedding in order to appease family. While family is important, couples should stand their ground on what they want for their big day. The wedding should represent the couple and their unique wedding vision.

TJ – Why should couples hire a wedding planner?
