With over 500 guests in attendance, the room had to be absolutely perfect. The Fairy Godmother team worked tirelessly making sure that every detail was set perfectly. Hand-folded napkins, red wine, and candlelight made the tablescape ambiance patriotic and warm.

Welcoming Thumbs Up, Cancer Down – Fairy Godmother Friday

Happy “Fairy Godmother Friday!”

For this Fairy Godmother Friday, we are giving the warmest of welcomes to the team behind”Thumbs Up Cancer Down,” as they have joined us at the 20th Street Cottage!

We take great pride in our little home away from home… It’s not just our office, but our happy place!

It’s not just our office, but our happy place!

When you have a place as happy as the 20th Street Cottage, it only makes sense that we will the rooms of our quaint little cottage with the happiest of people!

Thumbs Up Cancer Down” is a local non-profit organization that first started in 2014 when Kevin saw a photo on Facebook. This photo was of two cancer patients with their thumbs up, cue every emotion, for Kevin it was the beginning of something amazing.

This confirms that the best of ideas can be sparked from something as simple as a photo!

Naythan & David Original Thumbs Up, Cancer Down Photo

Together, Kevin and co-founder Cody set out on a mission. To help those battling cancer. They have found not one, not two, but a multitude of ways to do so! The organization can be found at many public events, and of course online! They raise funds through selling gear including but not limited to… shirts, t-shirts, and the Thumbs Up, Cancer Down original “power packs!”

These “power packs” are filled with items to make those undergoing chemotherapy a little more comfortable such as journals, phone back-up chargers, beanies and a few other items. What a cool idea!

As many of you will remember our 2016 Fairy Godmother Foundation couple, Rachel and Robert, were selected on behalf of their son having an inoperable brain tumor. Issac has also been a part of Thumbs Up, Cancer Down!

Okay, now how cool is this?!

The Thumbs Up, Cancer Down team has their very own mascot! (They are still accepting name ideas over on their website if you have an idea!)

Fairy Godmother Appreciation – Fairy Godmother Friday

As we kick off 2017, we wanted to take a moment to show our appreciation for one of our very own, Fairy Godmother Denise!

To be a real, true Fairy Godmother there are a few qualities you must inhibit… Class, fearlessness, helpfulness and to be caring! These are just a few of the qualities that Denise carries with her so elegantly.

To know Denise, is to love Denise and to have Denise on our team is a true blessing! We can always count on Denise to give us needed words of encouragement, the business advice, and the true friendship that we all know and love.

The Fairy Godmother family wanted to share their thoughts on their fellow Fairy…

Fairy Godmother’s founder, Colleen said…

“Denise has been by my side growing Fairy Godmother for the past 7 years.  She has been my rock and my confidant.  She is very protective of our Fairy. Denise is our pitch hitter, when we need a homerun and we are needing to calm a bride down Denise is who we bring in.  She is professional, buttoned up and has the best follow through I have ever seen. She is the BEST event planner in the business I have ever seen, she can handle an event for 700 to 50.  She speaks the language of any Corporate Controller, to private owner. We are LUCKY to have her!”

Fairy Godmother Cassandra…

“Denise is not afraid to get her hands dirty. She has a heart of gold but isn’t afraid to tell it like it is. I always know she’ll give me the non sugar coated version of anything. I will always thank her for introducing me to hot eggnog and not telling the Fairy Godmothers to run the other way when I was “stalking” her, hehe. I’m proud to call her part of my fairy family.”

Fairy Godmother Denise Wedding Event Producer

Fairy Godmother Marissa…

“Denise is a strong woman who speaks her mind. She is always ready to step in and help or to give words of wisdom when you need it most. Her sassy and classy attitude makes her one of a kind! She is encouraging, yet firm making her perfect for this business!”

Fairy Godmother Janet…

“Denise is a hard worker who is not afraid to face a challenge or do what it takes to get the job done. She’s a classy, sassy, spunky lady who I truly admire. Her guidance and direction have been a real encouragement to me.

Our fairy family is truly blessed to have her on our team and would not be the same without her.”

Fairy Godfather TJ…

“If there was one word to describe Denise, it would simply be “friend.” To find someone who is sassy, smart, and friendly is incredibly rare, and that’s why Denise and I get along so well! She understands me, even when I don’t, and is always able to show you the other side of a problem, even when you can’t. Now that I have Denise in my life, I don’t know how I lived without her!”

From the bottom of our “Fairy” big hearts, thank you Denise for just being YOU!

Eco Friendly Wedding Planning – Magical Monday

When people start to think wedding planning, they start thinking color schemes and budgets…

But very rarely do couples think about the impact their wedding may have on the environment.

We are here to help you eliminate the footprint that your magical day leaves behind while still remaining the best day, ever!

Think of your day. Where can you cut pollutants?? With the help of lists from The Knot and Bridal Guide your day is sure to be as eco-friendly as you are!

Getting married outdoors eliminates the need for electricity. By not using electricity, we are helping limited damages to the soil, water supply, and lowering emissions! Planning for this type of event can be tricky depending on weather, but nothing can beat natural lighting. Who would have thought that having a gorgeous outdoor wedding would help the environment?!

Using organic candles may also be used to illuminate a space naturally.

“Think green!” If you are using confetti at your event, think of confetti that is biodegradable. We have little friends that may get a hold of these pieces, such as birds and other small animals. Sparklers have become the new trend and have little to no impact as long as they are all disposed of properly.

A green, and budget friendly, twist on your event is simple. Household items are free! Plates, drawers, and gently loved vases may be used to create a unique and functional dessert table.

Fairy Godmother Sweets Table

Paper products are always a hit as they are the first interaction about your wedding that you’ll have with your guests via your wedding invitation. First impressions are so very important, and you don’t have to compromise to be conscientious of the environment.

Whether you are doing your own invitations, or having a professional tackle the task, you have options such as recycled paper, plantable invitations (yes, you can grow your invite!), or by using a wedding website in lieu of a formal printed invitation.

Food and flowers are most often the focal point of so many events, why make your day any different? Having your florist and caterer work with only the most organic products will make your day even more environmentally friendly.

Now, take a deep breath and know that a “green” wedding is possible!

Fairy Godmother Client Interview – Fairy Godmother Friday

There’s something so powerful about a review, but what about a post event interview? It was your big day, so we want to know everything!

Asking those questions that may not have normally come up, helps us to continually learn and grow!

Fairy Godmothers are there for the guys, too!

Fairy Godmothers are there for the guys, too!

After each Fairy Godmother event, we are sure to follow up with our clients and make sure that their event was purely magical. This gives our clients time to reflect on their big day, giving us the raw feedback that we love!

Fairy Godmother Colleen

In our interviews with our brides we want to know all the extra little details, why did they pick a certain vendor, what was something they would advise other couples on, or what really pulled at their heart strings for their venue choice.

We must say, most wedding day decisions are made by word of mouth recommendations. One reason that we feel so strongly about recommendations is because this was how Fairy Godmother came to be! When Colleen first set out 7 years ago, she was booked purely by referrals… Now that’s magic!

Fairy Godmother Marissa

What would you have done differently, and what advice do you have to give other brides?

Lindsey said… “DO NOT go on Pinterest 2 weeks before the wedding!!!!  If you can take as much time off of work the month before and the month after.  The planning can be so much.  Communicate and talk to each other, be involved, check in, do it together!  Make it “our” wedding. Book FG first the date you get engaged!”

Ydalia said… “Budgeted more for FG, for full planning. Hire them early. Pick your vendors wisely!”

Courtney’s advice was… “I would do the little things early, not wait until the last minute things begin to pile up.  Make the list months in advance and check things off as you go.  Your shoes, your necklace all of those little details.”

Fairy Godmothers are with you every step of the way on your big day.

Fairy Godmothers are with you every step of the way on your big day.

Why did you hire Fairy Godmother?

Katie hired Fairy Godmother because… “Because we had so many people we knew there it was going to be a lot, we wanted our family and friends to have fun.  I didn’t want to worry about anything else that day.  FG helped to make this happen!  We liked Colleen at hello, she was professional but friendly, she also came highly recommended!”

Melissa recommends us because… “Fairy Godmother created some of the most special moments, because you can’t always pull away from life, it was easy to get things done.  Peace of mind was important. Dominque didn’t feel we needed a wedding planner, then he saw how stressed I was, then he said what a relief it was and then he saw the value.”

Fairy Godmother Cassandra

No two weddings, or events, are ever the same. Different personalities, different venues, different sized groups… This is just one of the many aspects of our job that make it so magical! We know how much work it takes to make your dream a reality, and that’s why we love to help!

If you are in need of a little fairy dust, contact us today! We will be sure that your dreams become a reality.

Questions To Ask Before Hiring Your Wedding Planner – Magical Monday

The wedding industry is just like that of any other, it is overflowing with constant change!

One of these major changes included Fairy Godmother shifting from the title of “Wedding Planner” to “Event Producer!” By definition,

“Event Producers” are in charge of everything starting at conception leading all the way up to the execution!

The Fairy Godmother family is proud to be introduced as “Event Producers,” and

we cannot wait to use our production schedule to make your next event completely magical!

Before you sit down with a potential wedding planner, it is so very important to have a few questions answered before you get too deep!    You are planning one of the biggest days of your life, you want to be sure that you have everything covered, and that’s why we are here to help!

First things first, does the wedding planner have your date available? If they are busy, booked, or otherwise you want to be sure that you don’t waste any time.

Bhakta Wedding Fairy Godmother Colleen

Next up, if something were to happen to your chosen planner and they were unable to make it on your day, what happens?

While you may not already have a venue booked, but if you do you may want to know if they have worked there before. This way they can give you recommendations or express any concerns!

Fairy Godmother Foundation Fairy Godfather TJ

This question comes across often, but is wedding planning their full-time job? What might their other job be if it is only a part-time passion? This helps you better understand the planner and how their time is delegated.

As a planner, what will you do for us and what are we as the couple left responsible to handle?

Fairy Godmother Denise

On the day of the event, when will you arrive and when will you depart?

After booking, what are our means of communication and how many times will we meet, and will we be able to contact you with any questions? How will you stay in contact with us as the client?

Fairy Godmother Cassandra

What is your protocol for difficult vendors and/or guests? Will you take charge of these situations for us?

Who will be signing vendor contracts, you as the planner or us as the couple? Are you making a commission off of the vendors we book?

Fairy Godmother Marissa

Will you keep a running check register of our event to keep our budget on track? Will this constantly be updated as revisions are made to our original plans? Is this something that we will have access to any point?

Fairy Godmother Janet

Fairy Godmother has you covered from your head to your heels… Literally!

Now two big questions that you should refrain from asking aloud are…

Do their weddings all look the same? Is there a specific style that you are seeing with all of their work? There is no problem with this, but if there is a definite favor of style, make sure that it is yours!

The final question that you will have to ask yourself, is will you and your planner work well together? You want to avoid ever having tense meetings, or moments of hostility where you don’t feel that you are the most important person in the room.

20th Street Cottage “Wendy’s Words Library” – Fairy Godmother Friday

A few years ago one of Fairy Godmother Colleen’s dear friends, Wendy Wayne, succumbed to non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Though her life here may have ended, a legacy continued.

Wendy Wayne not only left an imprint on Colleen, but also those of many others!

Free Little Library

Two of Wendy’s most dear friends were trying to find a way for Wendy to live on after her death, and with the help of, they found the best way! Honoring a woman who was so much more than an advocate, but truly a soldier in her craft. She not only promoted education, but for everyone to be the best that they could possibly be in order to successfully fulfill their ultimate potential.

Wendy's Words Free Little Library

“Wendy’s Words” is a community outreach which seeks to gain a greater sense of community, while also fostering and promoting literacy and reading.

As you know, Fairy Godmother is always looking for ways to give back to the community that built such a successful (and fun) business for us! What better way than to give to the community, AND honor a legacy that we hold near and dear to our hearts?!

After a little push and inspiration from Fairy Godmother Cassandra, Colleen knew just what to do. She consulted the help of a woodworker who was able to craft and create an exact replica of our quaint little cottage to host our public library.

It all started with a sketch!

A Very Pandol Christmas – Magical Monday

What a year it has been!

As 2016 has come to an end, we are able to reminisce about our past events!

Weddings, events, socials, baby showers, open houses… We love it all!

One of our last events of 2016 was the annual Pandol Christmas Open House!

Oh, how we love working so closely with Carolyn to plan her magical events. Carolyn and Jack let our creative freedom soar and this event proved to be no different!

Snow globes, a sneaky elf, and Mistletone magic were the hits of this party!

As guests arrived, they were greeted with heavy hors d’oeuvres and sent to the bar to select their beverage of choice.

Of course, there was also the hot coco bar for guests where they could spike their hot coco or coffee with cinnamon whiskey, Irish crème or caramel liquor.

These add-in options were just the beginning! Crushed peppermint, cholocate chips and butterscotch flavored-gingerbread shaped gummies were additional festive holiday treats!

It wouldn’t be a Fairy Godmother event if there weren’t a few surprises… The first of the night was the TapSnap photobooth with the ability to put the Pandol’s guests inside a snow globe! Now how cool is that?!

Another surprise, even for the Pandols, was that the Bakersfield Blend Chorus, a chapter of the Sweet Adelines. The chorus shared the traditional holidays tunes that we all know and love.

Live music was provided by The Mistletones.

Our dear friend Therese and her band of jingly geniuses made sure that every melody and tune were just right for the guests, and filled the Pandol home with holiday cheer!

So many little details go into making an event a true success.

Stirrer rods, napkins and of course holiday packages disguised as tables were necessities for this event.
