Congratulations! You’re Engaged, Now What…? – Magical Monday

It’s another beautiful “Magical Monday” here in Fairy Land, and we are thrilled to continue sharing our wedding planning series, “Congratulations! You’re Engaged, Now What…?” with you!

This week, we are just four months from your magical day, and there are just a few things left for you to do before you get to say “I do!”

The four month mark is the best time to make sure you have ordered all of your print items.

Print items are far more than save the dates and invitations and are totally up to you and your creative mind.

Breaking the norm on wedding traditions can be challenging for some, but we want to help you ensure that your day is as original as you are!

One thing to always remember during your planning process is that you only have to do what you want, and should only have your day as you have always dreamed!

Another trend that is becoming more and more popular is allowing guests to drop a note or piece of advice into a box for the lucky couple to open at a later date, a fun way to personalize your day and maintaining that personal connection even after the wedding night has ended.

What about a wedding day program? That’s right, a detailed itinerary of each event to occur- which can be complete with names of those included in such. This also helps those trying to “wrangle” the persons involved for photos, etc. as your day transpires!

Personalized napkins? Dinner menus? Treat bags? The answer is always “YES!”

All About Me – Fairy Godmother Cassandra – Fairy Godmother Friday

It’s “Fairy Godmother Friday” and this means we get to continue sharing about our Fairy Family…

This week, we are sharing all about our very own Fairy Godmother Cassandra!

Fairy Godmother Cassandra by Makenzie Photography

As you may recall, Cassandra has recently started her own magical wedding planning journey as her boyfriend recently was upgraded to the title “fiance!”

First things first- Just know that there is not a single soul in this world who loves confetti, glitter, or anything that sparkles more than Cassandra!

For anyone who knows Cassandra, we all know that she LOVES to dance!

She shared with us that when she was growing up, Cassandra and her mom used to learn line dances in their living room. She added that she has also been known to break into dance in the rain with her bestfriend!

Cassandra wouldn’t exactly want to move away, but she would consider having a home base with 3-4 locations elsewhere, places where she could work of course!

If Cassandra could meet anyone, past or present, she would want to meet Lucille Ball or Walt Disney (or both!)!

Fairy Godmother Cassandra Blake & Teri French Wedding

When asked what Cassandra thinks about most, she answered “creating!”

She said that she finds herself wondering what she could create next, how she could make something herself, or just how to put a unique spin on something already made! Sign of a true creative, she said that anything can trigger this thought.

Fairy Godmother Nifty Balloons

Fairy Godmother Cassandra was the “Queen Bee” at the Big Fake Wedding!

We asked Cassandra if she sings in the shower, her answer was just too honest and fun!
She said that she sometimes will sing in the shower, but she really belts out in the car- to the point where passersby wonder what she’s doing!

If Cassandra could have ANY job in the world, what would it be? She said a creative director, installation artist, children’s author/illustrator, and of course Fairy Godmother!

Early bird or night owl?

Cassandra, without hesitation, said that she is night owl for sure! She said that sleep is usually her last priority and that she is always so disappointed that most craft stores close at 9:00 pm because she is always in need of more supplies!

Finally, we asked Cassandra if there is any new or exciting news that she would like to share with the world…

Her answer was too perfect to change… “I’m becoming Mrs. Gear in 2018!!! #WeddngPlannerturnedBride”

Murder Mystery for Philanthropy – Fairy Godmother Foundation

This last Friday, guests walked out of 2017 and stepped into a 1920’s style prohibition speakeasy New Year’s Eve party at the Dueces, also known as The Station.

Greeted by our host, this would be a New Year that everyone was sure to remember.

The very first Fairy Godmother Foundation couple in 2014 was Kurt and Blanca Dudley, Kurt succumbed to his cancer battle in August 2015. Blanca was in attendance looking absolutely dashing!

Sweets were eloquently stacked, tiers and tiers to satisfy even the pickiest sweet tooth, build your own grilled cheese station by the one and only Chef Nate, it was the perfect scene for the most perfect evening out.

After all, prohibition was a time of indulgence… For those who cared to find it.

Congratulations! You’re Engaged, Now What…? – Magical Monday

“Congratulations! You’re Engaged, Now What…?”

Wedding planning can be hard and stressful, but it doesn’t have to be!

All of us here at Fairy Godmother believe that every couple deserves to have a magical experience while planning their big day, so we have created this guide to help keep you on track.

We are still about 6 months away from your magical event, and that means it’s time to officially lock down your rental items!

Rental items is more than just tables and chairs, it includes your dishes, flatware, and even centerpieces!

It’s crucial to have these things in your mind, maybe on a running list, so that you can ensure your event is just as you have always dreamed.

Most importantly, you want to be sure that you have enough of everything for your guests, you wouldn’t want anyone to have to stand during your ceremony because you didn’t have enough chairs, or if someone had to use plastic utensils while everyone else used the real deal.

These are just the little things that us Fairies all think about!

According to Bridal Guide, you should order at least three to four dishes, glassware, stemware, and flatware per guest! Now, if you’ve never planned a wedding before, you may not have ever considered those numbers! When it comes to chairs, it is advised to order at least ten extra per location. This is in the event that any are damaged, and of course, if there are any extra guests!

When it comes to tables and chairs, many people forget to order the extras for all the fun stuff!

For example, your guestbook table, your welcome table, your cake table, maybe a sweets table, or even an “in memoriam” table!

The last thing we want anyone to do is to scramble last minute having to ask their Uncle Bob to bring a huge table in right before ceremony.

Map out your ideal wedding, it’s 2017… All dreams are possible!

If you’d like some extra help in planning, it’s never too late to contact Fairy Godmother!

Let us handle the magic for you.

All About Me – Fairy Godmother Denise – Fairy Godmother Friday

Happy “Fairy Godmother Friday!”

We are thrilled to continue our “All About Me” series as we introduce you to our Fairy Godmother team!

This week we proudly introduce you to Fairy Godmother Denise!

Denise has been with Colleen since the beginning, the VERY beginning.

In fact, the first event that Colleen ever did was with Denise!

Fairy Godmother Denise

Denise values her family and friends, but her fur babies Scruffy and Mag may give us all a run for our money!

Fairy Godmother Denise

Aside from what we already know about our spunky Denise, we asked her a few unique questions to get to know her better.

What is something that most people don’t know about Denise?

She used to show horses and she collects dolls!

In asking Denise if she liked to dance, we found out that she had taken dance classes for over 19 years!

Fairy Godmother Denise Wedding Event Producer

Do you think that Denise would love to live abroad?

That answer was an immediate “NO!”

While Denise may seem like she’s into all kinds of music, she really LOVES her “Oldies but goodies!”

Fairy Godmother Denise talking with guests.

When Denise wakes up, the first thing she thinks about it…

COFFEE!

It’s no surprise that this is also her favorite smell… Fresh coffee!

Fairy Godmother Denise

Denise is not just a morning person, but an optimistic person!

She views the glass half-full vs. half empty in all situations.

Fairy Godmother Denise

If Denise could have any job in the world, what would it be?

To be a Fairy Godmother, making everyone’s dreams and wishes come true! How perfect is that?!

The Fairy Godmother Foundation gets together with some of the most elite wedding vendors in Central California to put together an entire wedding!

The best part? This wedding is then donated to a deserving couple who are facing life altering circumstances which have caused them to table their wedding plans.

Fairy Godmother Foundation 2015

The very first Fairy Godmother Foundation couple, Kurt and Blanca! Kurt was battling stage 4 stomach cancer at the time of their wedding.

How cool is that?!

To make it even better, the Fairy Godmother Foundation hosts numerous events throughout the year to help raise funds for the wedding, allowing this donation to cover just about every wedding day detail at little to no cost to the couple!

Fairy Godmother Foundation 2016

Fairy Godmother Foundation’s 2016 couple, Robert and Rachel. Their son, Isaac, was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor during their wedding planning process.

How did it all begin?

The idea of the Fairy Godmother Foundation was first planted when Colleen Bauer, owner and founder of Fairy Godmother A Wedding and Event Planning Company, wanted to find a way to give back to the community that had helped her establish her company! But how…?

And then it began!

Vendors came flooding in asking to participate, the sense of community was remarkable!

All About Me – Fairy Godmother Colleen – Fairy Godmother Friday

Have you met the Fairies?

Do you wonder what we enjoy doing outside of weddings and events?

Each Fairy was asked a series of random questions to help you get to know us better!

This week, we are showcasing Fairy Godmother Colleen, Fairy Godmother’s very own owner and founder!

Colleen and her Prince Charming have one son, Brandon, and one fur baby, Ava!

Colleen and Brandon

If Colleen could live anywhere in the world… She would live near the ocean!

Her favorites include Santa Barbara, Avila, Morro Bay and Cayucos. When her son, Brandon, was growing up they spent a lot of time at their beach house in Cayucos, consequently she has many happy memories of her family on the beach! Colleen loves the calm, happy feeling of beach towns, and of course the sound and beauty of the ocean.

What is something that most people don’t know about Colleen?

She used to work as an Account Executive for Estee Lauder and would travel all over Southern California for the company. The job took her to New York, Florida, New Mexico, and Arizona. Not to mention she got to meet the one and only Leonard Lauder, Estee’s son, and Elizabeth Hurly! One of the best memories from her job with the company was getting to spend time in Estee’s actual office! Here she learned about merchandising, and just how important relationship building is!

If Colleen could change one thing in the world… What would it be?

Colleen is a huge animal lover!  It pains her to see so many animals abused, so she would do her best to make the laws much more strict for people who commit animal-related crimes.

California Wedding Day Awards Fairy Godmother

The Fairy Godmother squad when they arrived at the Vibiana for the 2017 California Wedding Day Awards!

We asked Colleen a fun question… Do you like to dance?

Turns out, she LOVES to dance! One of her bucket list items is to learn how to ballroom dance. Growing up she always wanted to dance, but her dad preferred her and her siblings to be in music, so she played the piano and guitar. One of her guilty pleasures is Dancing with the Stars.

Fairy Godmother Colleen in a Kate Spade Cocktail Dress

Do you think that Colleen would ever want to live abroad?

She doesn’t! She spent three years in Oklahoma and missed her family so very much. She might be able to swing a year abroad, but she has no plans to do so.

Does your name make any interesting anagrams?

No, but it does mean “Little Girl” in Irish!

What type of music do you love the most?

Colleen loves all the decades of music, however if she had to choose, she would choose classical music!

She also loves the sound of rain, or of course, the ocean!

Fairy Godmother Colleen with Jack & Carolyn Pandol at the International Fruit Genetics Dinner

Jack & Carolyn Pandol having a “grape” time with their very own Fairy Godmother!

Finally, we asked Colleen what the first thing she thinks of in the morning is!

She usually thinks ahead for her day, and sets goals of all the things that she would like to accomplish!

Stay tuned as we continue to share more fun and interesting facts about the faces of Fairy Godmother!

Congratulations! You’re Engaged, Now What…? – Magical Monday

Wow, we are less than 6 months from your magical day!

As we continue our “Congratulations! You’re Engaged, Now What…?” series, it’s time to finalize your guest list!

Darr Reception Wedding Group Photo

Photography by J.Michelle Photography.

If you recall the beginning of our series, we provided you with some insight on how to put together your guest list… So now, we will revisit that subject and ensure that you get all those invites out so you can start getting those RSVPs in!

First things first, how to know who to invite.

Major points to consider when considering your guest count- your venue capacity, and your budget.

If you and your fiancé are supporting your wedding day investment on your own, you have the power to set your number!

Traditionally, according to our friends over at The Knot, if you’re accepting help from family there is a division rule. If both sets of parents are assisting financially, they are both entitled to a quarter of the guest list, meaning that you and your fiancé get half and then the other half is split between the two families.

However, in recent times, couples are finding it easiest to just split the guest list evenly three ways.

While compiling your list, start high and then shave it down. This way, if someone wasn’t on the original, ask yourself why you didn’t think of them. A rule of thumb from The Knot is that if you have not spoken to them in at least three years, don’t invite them!

If you are looking to trim down your guest count, consider not adding the “plus one” option, and maybe even asking for adults only.

It’s your wedding, invite the ones who you want to share the best day of your life with!
