Welcoming Explorer Travel & Tours! – Fairy Godmother Friday

The “Happiest Place in Bakersfield” has grown, again!

We are so excited to share that Leland and Pamela of Explorer Travel and Tours have joined us as our final tenants of the 20th Street Cottage community room, designed by Jamie Urner Interior Designs!

The purpose of a community room is to allow professionals the comfort of an office, without paying the office price.

These rooms are shared space that is there when they need them without trying to have a conversation over blenders, the normalities of a coffee shop, or other little nuances that may arise in public space.

Wedding Planners are Like Insurance

06Hello and Happy Wedding Wednesday, There are so many reasons to hire a wedding planner!  Here are just 10!

We always say we are like insurance for your wedding day you never know when you are going to need us but boy when you do you will be so thankful we were there!

Great Article by Coastal Events in North Carolina:

TOP 10 REASONS TO HIRE A WEDDING PLANNER

10. SAVES TIME — Planning wedding takes enormous amount of time. In fact, the average couple spends well over 200 hours planning their special day. A good wedding planner will save you time and energy by researching vendors, taking care of the many, many details, and coming up with various creative ideas to make your wedding amazing!

9. SAVES MONEY — Weddings can be extremely expensive.  However, by hiring a wedding planner, couples can save a great deal of money.  Because wedding planners provide so much business to vendors, they are often able to negotiate discounts for their clients.  Wedding planners are also well-versed at helping couples set budgets and sticking to them.

8. SAVES RELATIONSHIPS — Weddings are very stressful.  This stress often results in many arguments for couples as well as with family members and friends.  Wedding planners have been there time and time again and know how to avoid such problems before they begin as well as act as a buffer when there are conflicts. Wedding planners are also able to take on the responsibilities often assigned to loved ones so that everyone is able to enjoy the wedding.  Remember, you still want a relationship with your mother well after your wedding!

7. ENSURES DREAMS ARE MADE REALITIES — Most have been dreaming of their wedding day their entire life.  Wedding planners work for the couple and ensure that all desires are met (and often surpassed)!

6.  OFFERS ADVICE — Wedding planners have planned countless weddings and know exactly what works and what doesn’t.  They are also knowledgeable on wedding etiquette.  Furthermore, wedding planners are able to recommend competent vendors, based on personal experience.

5. ACTS AS THE “GO TO PERSON” — The average wedding has at least 22 different vendors.  Combine that with the entire wedding party and all of the guests and that is a lot of people with questions and concerns!  By hiring a wedding planner, couples can simply tell others “talk to the wedding planner!”

4. CREATES SCHEDULES — There are so many events leading up to the big day!  Couple that with the many things that happen during the wedding and who can keep track?  The wedding planner can!  Wedding planners are well-versed at making detailed itineraries for all involved (including other vendors) and making sure that everything happens on time!

3. HANDLES CRISIS —
Whether we like it or not, most big events involve crisis.  Who really wants to deal on their wedding day with the bakery not delivering the cake on time or the flower girl throwing a tantrum?  No one!  Wedding planners know how to handle all unforeseen circumstances.

2. ORCHESTRATES FROM REHEARSAL THROUGH THE END OF RECEPTION — Do you want to be responsible for organizing rehearsal or making sure the bridal party is properly lined up?  How about making sure that the guest who had a little too much to drink departs safely?  Wedding planners orchestrate from rehearsal through the end of the reception, ensuring everything goes off without a hitch!

1. MINIMIZES STRESS AND MAXIMIZES FUN! — Hiring a wedding planner ensures that you will have a worry-free and stress-free day, thus, allowing you to enjoy your day like your guests!

Your Engaged Now What? 13 Things to do After You Get Engaged

Happy Wedding Wednesday!

We found this great article in Readers Digest, enjoy!

1. Tell your parents.

Give them the honor of hearing the news first. Have the champagne ready to celebrate.

13-things-engagement-01-sl

2. Make the calls.

Before you log in to Facebook to update your relationship status or tweet your happy news, be certain everyone who should hear it from you personally has been called.

13-things-engagement-02-sl

3. Get a manicure.

Your finger and its sparkly new adornment will be getting a lot of attention.

4. Speaking of rings

Get yours appraised and insured

13-things-engagement-04-sl

5. Craft a catchall response.

You’ll be asked when you’re getting married often. Get past the “big day” question by choosing a month, season or even just a year.

13-things-engagement-05-sl

6. Perfect your proposal story.

Everyone will be asking how he popped the question. Craft a retelling that reflects the beauty and magic of the moment.

13-things-engagement-06-sl

7. Make a pass at your guest list.

Before you even begin the venue search, nail down this magic number. Planners want to how many people you’re inviting so they can pair you with spaces (ballrooms, tents, etc.) that can accommodate head count. Packages are also priced in ranges based on guest minimums, so this will help you with the next step: budgeting.

8. Set a budget and start saving.

It’s easy to get carried away planning for the happiest day of your life, but ask yourself, do you want to be paying for the wedding years after the honeymoon, or would you rather go house hunting?

13-things-engagement-08-sl

9. Places, please!

Figuring out where to hold the reception is hard work. You may visit several venues before finding “the one.” Make this part of the planning as fun as possible by staying calm and organized. Create a spreadsheet (and consider sharing it in a Google Doc) with your fiancé to keep tabs on the venues you visit, what you like (or don’t like) about them, their prices, etc.

10. Buy a few bridal magazines.

The Internet can be overwhelming when you’re wading through wedding websites. Magazines can help remedy that feeling. Pick one up and start folding pages, mark them with post-its, and have fun.

11. Relinquish control.-

We love this one most of all!!!  Call your Fairy Godmother!

Can you plan the entire wedding by yourself? No one can answer this question but you (and possibly your Mom). If you’re the type of person who’d rather not stress over the details, a wedding planner will help tremendously!!!!

12. Re-read number 4.

It’s highly likely you’ll postpone insuring your engagement ring. Don’t. Here’s some great advice from theknot.com that explains everything you should know about protecting your ring: “Insurance 101: Engagement Ring Insurance.”

13. Relax.

Do your best to avoid any unnecessary stress. You don’t want anyone cracking Bridezilla jokes about you, right? Some days will feel completely overwhelming. When this happens, grab a latte, go for a pedicure and think about how amazing your wedding is going to be.

New Year’s Eve Wedding at Park Place

Happy Magical Monday!

So fun to share our New Year’s Eve bride and groom with you.  Steven and Stephanie were married at Park Place.  It was a chilly but beautiful night.

Stephanie was one of the calmest brides we have ever worked with and she looked so pretty.

Our favorite moment of the night was when her Dad gave his speech.  He told the story of how they came to adopt Stephanie when she was just 4 years old and how she only came with a suitcase full of her clothes.  They kept the suitcase after all of these years.  It was used that night for the money dance.  Such an amazing story.  Such a nice family!

Thank you to a great team of vendors

Patrick Ang Photography

Hello and Happy Magical Monday!  On Monday’s we normally post about events we have done in the past but today is different.  Today we are posting about our dear friend Patrick Ang!

We met Patrick several years ago when we did a wedding together, from the first hello we knew we were going to be friends.  He is fun, silly, easy going, makes people feel at ease when he is photographing them, he is creative and talented.

Patrick will soon be making the move to the beautiful coast.  We are so happy for him!  Of course this means he will have to drag Fairy Godmother to the coast for a few weddings.  Patrick will continue to cover the central coast and the central valley, that makes us happy happy.

We recently treated Patrick to a farewell lunch and were so touched when he bought us a gift to thank us.  We felt we should be buying him a gift.  We adore our crazy, fun and talented friend!

May your new journey be Magical.

Love The Entire Fairy Godmother Team!!!

Below are a few photos of Patrick and some of his work………….189920_10150457471605397_782140396_17689668_583706_n 281325_479586508747429_880390350_n 305686_413137868720827_464199868_n 318873_10201207704459087_676460315_n 430608_3505463117930_513551656_n 576937_10200148536290605_538209018_n 625633_4402778830262_406921301_n 936737_10151406645190706_1562961827_n 1453429_584381098276361_1218334357_n 1524913_10153669381595397_788370934_n ResizedImage_1387523185399

Renaissance Spa and Resort Wedding

We are thrilled to share just a few of Lauren and Grant’s wedding photos.  Their wedding was EPIC!  They were married in Indian Wells at the beautiful Renaissance Resort and Spa.  The LOVE was in all of the details.  Lauren’s Mom Lyndia went above and beyond, she made the bridesmaids robes, custom flip-flops, earrings, bracelets and hair pieces.  Such talent, we are thrilled that we may be working with Lyndia to unveil her bridal line!

Lauren and Grant had one of the biggest bridal parties we have ever taken care of.  The entire bridal party was wonderful, sweet and kind.  There were 11 Bridesmaids and 13 Groomsmen, we felt like we had 13 little brothers, we would find 5 and lose 3 find 2 and lose 2 more.  However they were so happy for Grant and Lauren.  When we finally got everyone in line to go down the aisle several were giving us a high five, such a fun group.

Lauren and Grant’s first look was sweet, Lauren looked beautiful.  They are so neat together, the thing we noticed is they laugh a lot and certainly complement each other.

We were thrilled to be their Fairy Godmother!

We can’t wait to see the professional photos from the very famous Michael Segal.

JEH Ranch Wedding…..Brent and Rachel

You never know when you meet someone how they will affect your life.

9 years ago I met Veronica at Independence School.  She was the school secretary.  She was always kind and warm to me and my little kindergartener  Brandon.  Being a new mom you are a little nervous and have many silly questions.  Veronica never made me feel like any of my question were silly.  When Brandon was in 1st grade we were told he would be transferred to a brand new elementary school called American.  We were thrilled to find out Veronica would also make the move.  She was with us his entire elementary school year, her sweet soothing voice was always there when we called the school or when we had to stop by the office.

Fast forward 5 more years, Brandon is now 15.  Veronica sent me a message on Face Book to tell me her daughter was getting married and would I be her wedding coordinator. Of course I said YES!

Rachel was amazing, she is one of the strongest most posed women I have ever met.  You see……….the morning of her wedding she was in the hospital.  In all of the years I have been doing weddings I have never had a bride in the hospital the day of their wedding.  Rachel had been deathly sick the night before.  They were able to get some fluids in her.  She made it through hair, make-up and photos and we had time for her to rest.  She was such a trooper.  She pushed through feeling bad, she was not going to allow her day to be ruined.

Their wedding was at JEH Ranch, what a beautiful venue.  Morgan and her team go out of their way to make sure every wedding is  spectacular!

I am so looking forward to seeing all of the amazing photos by Makenzie.

Below are a few we took.

Thank you Veronica for taking care of us every day for 7 years it was a pleasure to take care of you and Rachel for her very special day.

Mother’s Wish

Mother’s Wedding Dress

So you are planning your wedding when you come home and find your mother’s wedding gown laid out on the bed with her beaming beside it urging you to put it on. It is that dreaded day when you have to tell your mother that you don’t want her old gown because it is out of style and doesn’t quite flatter you in addition to the fact that you already picked out a wedding gown. You see the smile disappear from her face and she carefully packs her wedding gown back up and walks away with a droop to her shoulder. But you tell yourself that every girl wants a gown of her own right?

There are several ways to prevent this happening your mother being disappointed and you not being satisfied. First, you can take your mother’s gown and have it altered to fit and style it up a bit. Or you can use a certain part of the gown on your own such as the train or the lace or the veil. Or you can use all of your mother’s gown’s material to make a completely new gown. These will all appease your mother and hopefully suit you. Hopefully these suggestions will bridge the difficulties of trying to wear your mother’s gown, while you want your own.

After you have had your wedding, keep this scenario in mind when boxing away your own gown. You know that your girls will want a gown of their own when they get married, so use your gown for something different but still meaningful. The best ways to use the gown are: using the material for a baptismal gown for your child, or if you are Catholic, using the material for a first communion gown. Use your gown in other ways so that you are not the one walking away with a droop to your shoulder.
