Congratulations! You’re Engaged, Now What…? – Magical Monday

As we continue our series for the recently engaged, we are now about 5-7 months away from saying “I do!”

With the wheels of wedding planning picking up their speed, it is now the most beautiful time in the process to select your florist!

Florals by House of Flowers. Photography by Shelli Renee.

Florals by House of Flowers. Photography by Shelli Renee.

In order to make this process a little bit easier for you, we have compiled a list of key facts and tips in order to aid your way through.

First things first, as we have mentioned with just about every vendor selection…. BUDGET! Know what you are willing to invest in your wedding day for each category, and make sure those budgets add up in line with your ultimate wedding day investment. This should be one of your very first starting points when meeting with potential florists. You don’t want to waste any of their time, or your own time, with unrealistic possibilities.

Focus on what will work for you!

Next up, have an idea of what you are interested in! If you walk in with just a budget in mind, but lack any sort of direction towards your wedding day vision- you are going to be pulling a wild card when you meet with florists. Now, we aren’t saying that the florist will not work with you, but we are saying you may find it a bit more challenging in taking this route, versus showing your vendor what you have interest in.

Providing them with a vision, or storyboard, gives them the leeway to adjust and personalize your desires in ways you hadn’t even imagined!

According to WeddingWire, couples should use their bouquet (if applicable) for a reference point in their floral decisions, as your bouquet is the statement floral piece!

There are a few common faux paus in modern age when it comes to wedding day florals.

The first we can thank Pinterest as clients try to have their inspiration replicated- this leads to immediate disappointment when it doesn’t go as planned. We want to avoid this through you having an open mind! Be open to new colors, floral types, and of course, new styles! Think of everything included in your big day, and how the florals will fit in.

Think of choosing florals as trying on a bunch of dresses (which we are sure you have already done!), there may be a style of flower that you haven’t seen yet. Let your florist use their knowledge and experience to help guide you through this process, after all, they are to be your trusted professional!

May’s Collaboration of Creative Partners Luncheon – Fairy Godmother Friday

April showers bring May flowers, but they also brought us our May Collaboration of Creative Partners Luncheon!

Fairy Godmother Collaboration of Creative Partners Logo

Specialty logo design by Matinae Design Studio.

Fairy Godmothers Colleen and Cassandra took a “fairy field trip” one day, and as many of you may know, some of our best ideas come from long car rides!

This “Fairy Field Trip” was actually a very special event! It was an exclusive, invitation-only conference put on by Stacie Francombe. Another invitee was none other than the famous Colin Cowie, Colin is best known for celebrity weddings and events. In one of Colin’s speeches, he said that our vendors are much more than the word leads us to believe, and that they are truly “Creative Partners!”

Just like that the “Collaboration of Creative Partners” luncheons were born.

This month’s luncheon was hosted at the one and only, NV Catering!

This lunch was not only tasty and filling, but also a chance for all of us to get together outside of the wedding and event industry.

Our table was so full of conversation and yummy food!

Chef Nate and his amazing team worked tirelessly making sure our plates, and stomachs, were never empty.

Without luncheons like this, we would never have found out that two of our guests knew eachother from their previous jobs in radio! Donna from the Italian Heritage Hall and Kevin of Kevin Rush Entertainment spent years together at cool concerts, who would have thought they would reconnect years later in the wedding business?!

We learned that Nannette of Custom Creations started with simple gifts for teachers and friends and brought her loving husband Marcos into the mix to help!

Theresa of Theresa Wooner Photography wants to set the perfect image and achieve goals for her children to look up to, Megan from Elevate Hair Studio used to work with children with special needs, and that Chef Nate started out piece by piece until he could own his own restaurant!

We would never have found these fun facts out without our luncheon, which is just one reason why we keep them going! To learn more about each other and watch other collaborations blossom!

Congratulations! You’re Engaged, Now What…? – Magical Monday

As we continue our wedding planning process, we are still 8-10 months out from your magical day!

You’ve selected your wedding gown, bridal party attire, and the majority of your vendor selections… Now, it is time for one of the most fun parts… Gift registry!

Your wedding day gift registry is one of the best things for both you and your potential gift givers. This is a sure fire way for you to not only get things that you may have wanted but also a way to get the things that you may need!

After you have tackled some of your more major tasks in wedding planning, it is important to get your registry done in a fairly timely manner, as your family and friends will look for it as they join you in celebrating your engagement up until your wedding day. Bridal showers, engagements parties, and the list goes on for when you will be showered with love and gifts.

Our angel Fairy Godmother, Pammy, loading gifts for the newlyweds to make their getaway!

Another important part of putting your registry together is to ensure that you include items for every budget, this will help you accommodate the needs of your guests as they shop for the soon to be newlyweds. This isn’t just something for one of you to do alone, this task is one that you should both share. These are things that should appeal to both of you as they are going to be in your own shared space!

Welcome to 2017. If you haven’t already, please take note that things are a little different than they used to be. A little less traditional and a little more off the beaten path. But the end product is still the same, two people sharing their forever.

With that in mind, it’s time to think outside the box of what is “proper” for your registry. Now, registry items are the things you want and need, personalized just for you! If you already have your fancy dishes and utensils, think outside the box! Do you need a toolbox to clean up the garage? How about a new vacuum? It is totally okay to put these things down! If you aren’t afraid to champagne toast over a new Roomba, don’t be afraid to ask for it.

On the flip side… Be sure to consider what you are selecting for your registry. If you don’t cook or bake, the really expensive kitchen mixer may not be a practical choice. You want to avoid filling your new happy married life home with clutter and things that will only be there for looks. But trust us, we know how tempting it is to go wild when the clerk gives you the fancy price gun to run around the store with.

And, let’s be honest… Even if you give them an itemized list of all the things you may want, they will still struggle. Be sure to leave the cash and gift card avenue open for anyone who feels that it is a better fit for them. Think of all the possibilities!

Teri & Blake Fairy Godmother Wedding

Finally, thank you cards are an absolute MUST! Weddings can be busy, usually, gifts are opened later in the comfort of your home with your spouse. Therefore, people may not get to see the reaction when you open the super fancy blender that they got you off of your registry that you thought nobody would choose. People want to know if you liked their gift, or even if you got it.

Don’t wait too long to send out the lovely little thank you notes. There’s a fine line around this gray area for thank you cards, a solid date range is roughly two weeks to three months post wedding day.

This is a happy time and a super fun time for you and your soon to be, so register away in a few of your favorite stores!

While we can’t do your registry for you, Fairy Godmother can guide you in the right direction! Contact us today!

Congratulations! You’re Engaged, Now What…? – Magical Monday

“Congratulations! You’re Engaged, Now What…?”

This week, we are still in our 8-1o month time block until you and your soon-to-be say, “I do!”

Now that you have a date, venue, caterer, and a rough draft of your guest list… It’s time to pick a DJ!

Freestyle Entertainment Fairy Godmother

Fairy Godmother Colleen with Mike of Freestyle Entertainment!

Not all weddings have DJ’s, some have live bands, or other forms of musical entertainment. We want to help you make sure that you get exactly what you want for you on your special day. This is just one of the many ways that you get to share your personality and interests with your guests as you engulf them into a full experience of you as a couple.

A good DJ can make or break your guests’ experience. If you want that loud, exciting, and constant action- a harpist or violinist may not be for you.

Fairy Godmother has had the greatest pleasure of working with so many kinds of entertainment! We have had the harpist, the 5-piece band, and of course, we have worked with a fabulous variety of DJ’s!

Every single creative partner has a distinct style, all finding the best ways to appeal to their couples’ needs.

This is where searching for the right DJ comes in. You want to give yourself options, not just selecting the one that played a really super awesome playlist off the internet at your cousin’s brother’s mother’s wedding.

Wedding Wire World 2017 Fairy GodmotherWhat is one of the best perks of this “happy business” you ask?

The never-ending learning!

The Fairy Godmother squad was fortunate enough to pack up and head south to Anaheim, California for the Wedding Wire World 2017 conference!

Talk about fun!

No Fairy Field Trip is complete without some shopping and a little bit of ice cream!

You can best believe that some of your favorite Fairies indulge into their sweetest treats when they get the chance.

And what would a Fairy Field Trip be without a few shenanigans post check in?!

The very first thing that our opening speaker Alan Berg shared with us was a quote by Jim Collins, “Good is the enemy of great.”

Alan Berg was one of many great speakers that Wedding Wire brought to us, his career is focused in building others. A phenomenal motivational speaker, author, and business builder!

Did we mention that this conference started on Wedding Wire’s 10 year anniversary?!

How cool is that?!

We had our “fan girl” moment when we got to see the one, the only, the legendary… Mindy Weiss!

She was so warm, fashionable, and funny!

She made herself relatable to each and every guest in the audience, we felt like she was talking right to us!

Oh wait, she did!

Wedding Wire was the first company in the wedding industry to offer online wedding reviews. This is where we first learned about the power of a review! Talk about “WOW!”

After day two of conferences, Wedding Wire hosted a fabulous evening event for all the attendees to network and mingle.

Aside from absolutely stunning centerpieces, Wedding Wire hosted hors d’oeuvres and an assortment of custom grilled cheese sandwiches!

Another speaker was none other than Candace Nelson. Does the name ring a bell? No? How about Sprinkles? Still nothing? What about the vending machine cupcake company? Yup, that’s her!

Congratulations! You’re Engaged, Now What…? – Magical Monday

It’s “Magical Monday” here in Fairy Land and that means we get to share more tips on your wedding planning process!

We are still roughly about 10-months away from your magical wedding day, but there’s no time for rest just yet!

With just less than a year to go it is time to nail down your guest list!

Even better, it’s time to nail down your guest list and their address!

First things first, you should have your budget pretty much set in stone. This will help you with the groundwork of creating your guest list, by having an idea of how many guests you will be able to hold at your venue, how many guests you will be able to accommodate within your budget, and to still have some wiggle-room in your day… You have totally got this handled!

Fairy Godmother guestbook left coast by design photograph

Photographed by Racquel Leal Photography.

Before you grab that notepad to start writing, have a sit down with any and all parties who are contributing to the cost of your big day. If you’re paying for your own wedding, you can do whatever you would like! If parents, family, and friends are providing aid you need to be sure there is a clear understanding of who will be coming.

It is often expected that parents invite their close circle of friends, who may or may not be on your guest list already. We don’t want anyone to have their feelings hurt, and we don’t want any surprise guests! Talk it out, it’s a win-win!

Create your dream list. See where that will put you in terms of guest count and how it will impact your budget. Now taking what you have discovered, you can either smash your list or keep it just like it is and viola, you’re all set!

Fairy Godmother guestbook left coast by design photograph

Invitations by Matinae Design Studio. Photography by Left Coast By Design.

Now, if you need some help cutting down the list… Take these tips into consideration… If they aren’t relatives and you haven’t spoken to them since that one time at the grocery store, don’t worry about inviting them. A little wishy-washy on having younger civilians at your event? Don’t invite them! Only see them at the grocery store? Don’t do it. Haven’t seen them since you were five when they lived by your Nana’s? Don’t even go there.

As conscious adults we like to overthink situations, always seeing the alternative, but part of wedding planning is making big decisions.

Another tactic that can be used is when you send out your response cards, have the names already printed so that one invitation doesn’t lead to ten guests. Avoid those last minute straggler invitations, and don’t let your cousin’s boyfriend’s mother crash in on your event because she was invited via text message two hours before the wedding.

If you can handle keeping your guest list organized and strategic, you have this wedding planning thing down! If you’d like a little more help with your planning, contact Fairy Godmother and let us handle it for you!

Darr Wedding Reception – Fairy Godmother Friday

Hello, wedding season!

To kick start our favorite time of year, we got to celebrate with planning Lauren and Matt’s wedding reception!

While being Bakersfield natives, Lauren and Matt relocated to the East coast post-high school to pursue their education and careers. They had an intimate wedding with close friends and family in Florida but still wanted to host an event for them to celebrate with friends and family in their hometown.

This is where the Fairy magic comes in!

Since attending high school with two members of the Fairy Godmother family, we were over the moon ecstatic to plan this event!

While our Fairy Godmother couple did most of their planning from afar, every visit felt like we had just seen them. There was an instant connection, and we are thrilled that Lauren let us take the reigns to make her vision a reality.

The reception would take place at Temblor Brewing Company, a modern blank slate that would give Fairy Godmother Cassandra a canvas she had big plans for. Including, but not limited to, the hashtag applique that was in the entry way for guests to see as they arrived.

First off, with a little help from our friends at Walker-Lewis Rents, we were able to have Paradise Balloons lighten up the air space with bright colored balloons! This allowed for the “ooh-ahh” reaction when guests first arrived!

The tables were complete with polka dot table runners, tissue pom-poms, assorted glassware complete with a variety of colored fairy lights! All the proper items for such a bright and happy event!

Congratulations! You’re Engaged, Now What…? – Magical Monday

Yay! You’re engaged, now what?!

At this point in our series, we are about 8-10 months away from one of the best days of your life!

In the midst of selecting your wedding day vendors, there are some other details to pick out.

One of the first selections will be what your wedding party will wear.

Dresses and tuxedos… The options are endless!

Fairy Godmother Wedding Attire

Photograph by Left Coast By Design.

There are a few things to remember when selecting your wedding party’s attire! One is that your wedding party is the face of your wedding, they will be in majority of your photos, and most of all- you don’t want to be the couple that made their wedding party wear something atrocious!

When it comes to your bridesmaids, you want to make sure that their gowns won’t upstage your bride while remaining cohesive with the style. Whether you personally select each person’s attire or give them free reign, you have to have some sort of direction regarding wardrobe, after all it is your wedding day!

Groomsmen are a bit more simple, with a lot less wiggle room as far as accessories and wardrobe choices are concerned. A solid color tux, or suit, accented with a color relative to the wedding decor makes it easy and still looks great!

If you’re more of a relaxed, carefree couple you may consider deciding on a color scheme and let your wedding party decide on their own outfits.

It is important to keep in mind your party’s body types, budgets, and personalities in mind. We all know that there is nothing worse than being stuck in something that you feel extremely uncomfortable in.

Let Fairy Godmother help plan your big day, not only plan, but to share our advice on proper wedding party wardrobe for your magical day! Contact us to schedule your consultation!

Collaboration of Creative Partners April Luncheon – Fairy Godmother Friday

We love the phrase “Community Over Competition,” which is simply described as “getting to the top by building others up!”

Fairy Godmother was born here in Bakersfield, what we like to call the “biggest small town,” and we first grew simply by word of mouth. There was no advertising, our growth was directly correlated to referrals of past clients, guests, and friends.

Fairy Godmother Collaboration of Creative Partners Luncheon

Part of this business is education. We attend conferences, and are even invited to special events with the most elite vendors in the business. At one conference in particular, ISSE in Carmel, Fairy Godmothers Colleen and Cassandra were rubbing elbows with the one and only Colin Cowie.

At this conference, Colin shared that our vendors are SO much more than just your caterer, or your photographer… They are our friends! We are all in this together and that we should let that show by calling them “friendors.”

If you have been witness to a “Fairy Field Trip” you should know that more than one creative mind with a notepad on the move is just a pinch of the fairy dust that Fairy Godmother offers. The ideas were brewing and viola, the “Collaboration of Creative Partners” luncheon was born.

Fairy Godmother Collaboration of Creative Partners Luncheon

Paper Product by Matinae Design Studio.

Once a month, the Fairy Godmother family invites a handful of guests to share an intimate lunch and allows for this table of “friendors” to talk and share stories outside of our events and meetings!

At our most recent April luncheon, we learned that Stephanie of Gimme Some Sugar Bakery got her name from her grandma always saying “come here and gimme some sugar!” Marianne of Marianne Lucas Photography used to be a Supervisor in the Kern High School District before taking her leap of faith into full-time photography. Angela and Patricia of Enchanted Bridal Boutique find their greatest happiness in putting their brides in their dream dresses. Christina of Kwik Signs is a super mom and loves organization, Teresa of Jo Ron Co. finds love in working within the community, and Amy of Alpha Omega Valet Services took over her business and employs orphan and foster youth, some of whom come from her full-time job at CASA of Kern County

Wands full of thanks from all of us at Fairy Godmother, we appreciate you all taking the time out of your day to join us, we know how valuable you are to your business!
