20th Street Cottage Interior Design – Fairy Godmother Friday

Exciting things have been happening at the 20th Street Cottage, here in Downtown Bakersfield!

After having the 20th Street Cottage Community Room redesigned by the one and only Jamie Urner of Jamie Urner Interior Designs, we realized that a much needed project had landed upon our fairy wings… The cottage needed a complete facelift!!

Jamie Urner is no stranger to the Fairy Godmother family, after Fairy Godmother Colleen produced her sister’s wedding.

When it came time to do some revamping at the cottage, we knew just who to call.

Once the redesign of the Community Room had concluded, we had an itch we just couldn’t scratch… We quickly had Jamie dive into design options for the hallway and kitchen.

Cinderella’s glass slipper and fairy blue accents added subtle hints to the kitchen, and you know that we are all about the details!

We were completely thrilled with the outcome!

We wanted a feel that combined our love of our namesake Cinderella, the class of brides before us like Jackie O., Lucille Ball and Grace Kelly, and then added finishing touches from the modern era. Jamie took all of this and created her own magic at the 20th Street Cottage!

When it came time to redesign our office, we let Jamie take the reigns. Taking productivity and elegance to create a functional workspace that would double as an elegant setting when the Fairies aren’t hard at work.

Jamie absolutely nailed it! Adding in light touches of our beloved “fairy blue” bringing our brand to life in our office, mirrored shelving to showcase our great works, and a new table giving us the chance to gather around the table… literally!

A complete facelift wouldn’t be complete without every room… All that we had left was the loo!

Jamie added some fur, vintage mirrors and new lighting to bring the room to its full potential!

Welcoming Explorer Travel & Tours! – Fairy Godmother Friday

The “Happiest Place in Bakersfield” has grown, again!

We are so excited to share that Leland and Pamela of Explorer Travel and Tours have joined us as our final tenants of the 20th Street Cottage community room, designed by Jamie Urner Interior Designs!

The purpose of a community room is to allow professionals the comfort of an office, without paying the office price.

These rooms are shared space that is there when they need them without trying to have a conversation over blenders, the normalities of a coffee shop, or other little nuances that may arise in public space.

Explorer Travel & Tours 20th Street Cottage

Leland and his gorgeous wife Pamela branched out of their daily lives to create something different. Leland being a professional firefighter and Pamela, a college professor, started Explorer Travel and Tours

20th Street Cottage Leland Davis

Leland and Pamela have one mission. It is simple and absolutely selfless… “This business allows us to help those who help others. We love to support church, mission, educational, and various charitable organizations with travel needs worldwide.”

Together, they began giving couples, and large groups, the trip of a lifetime through travel planning!

Their company, Explorer Travel & Tours, offers the best travel experience from start to finish that any company could!

Leland hasn’t always been one of Bakersfield’s premier travel agents. In fact, Leland is one of Bakersfield’s lead fire engineers!

In addition to being successful, and generous, business owners, Leland and Pamela are incredibly active with their family! Taking trips and sharing experiences with their loved ones is a top priority.

On behalf of everyone at the 20th Street Cottage, we are proud to share our happy place with Explorer Travel and Tours!

Welcoming Courtney Ghilarducci-Dendy! – Fairy Godmother Friday

Happy, happy “Fairy Godmother Friday!”

We want to share about some exciting happy news, our happy place has another tenant…

Courtney of GhilaDolci Bakery has joined us in the 20th Street Cottage Community Room!

We are glad to have Courtney at the 20th Street Cottage, she has been a long time friend to the Fairy Godmother family.

Fairy Godmother Colleen & Courtney Ghilarducci

Our very own Fairy Godmother Colleen with Courtney, owner of GhilaDolci Bakery.

Courtney first caught the eye of Fairy Godmother Colleen in 2013 at a wedding she was coordinating. The Fairies have a keen eye for detail, so you know that we thought she was THAT good!

GhilaDolci Bakery

The very first GhilaDolci Bakery cake that caught the eyes of Fairy Godmother! (You might even recognize the talented Theresa Wooner of Theresa Wooner Photography!)

GhilaDoci Bakery was a dream come true for Courtney after getting her degree in business economics, and after attending Le Cordon Bleu in Southern California. Growing up in an Italian family meant that cooking and baking were in Courtney’s blood! She helped her Mom and Nonna create yummy treats like biscotti and pies, which aided in her great love for food!

As life goes, time went on and the friendship grew from deep within the frosted sides of a delicious wedding cake. Fairy Godmother Colleen and Courtney became such great friends that Colleen even had the honor of being Courtney’s very own Fairy Godmother!

It’s truly a pleasure to have a “friendor” that prepares all of their treats from scratch! Courtney takes great pride in her reputation that was built on her handmade treats crafted from the finest of ingredients.

Welcoming Thumbs Up, Cancer Down – Fairy Godmother Friday

Happy “Fairy Godmother Friday!”

For this Fairy Godmother Friday, we are giving the warmest of welcomes to the team behind”Thumbs Up Cancer Down,” as they have joined us at the 20th Street Cottage!

We take great pride in our little home away from home… It’s not just our office, but our happy place!

It’s not just our office, but our happy place!

When you have a place as happy as the 20th Street Cottage, it only makes sense that we will the rooms of our quaint little cottage with the happiest of people!

Thumbs Up Cancer Down” is a local non-profit organization that first started in 2014 when Kevin saw a photo on Facebook. This photo was of two cancer patients with their thumbs up, cue every emotion, for Kevin it was the beginning of something amazing.

This confirms that the best of ideas can be sparked from something as simple as a photo!

Together, Kevin and co-founder Cody set out on a mission. To help those battling cancer. They have found not one, not two, but a multitude of ways to do so! The organization can be found at many public events, and of course online! They raise funds through selling gear including but not limited to… shirts, t-shirts, and the Thumbs Up, Cancer Down original “power packs!”

These “power packs” are filled with items to make those undergoing chemotherapy a little more comfortable such as journals, phone back-up chargers, beanies and a few other items. What a cool idea!

As many of you will remember our 2016 Fairy Godmother Foundation couple, Rachel and Robert, were selected on behalf of their son having an inoperable brain tumor. Issac has also been a part of Thumbs Up, Cancer Down!

Okay, now how cool is this?!

The Thumbs Up, Cancer Down team has their very own mascot! (They are still accepting name ideas over on their website if you have an idea!)

20th Street Cottage “Wendy’s Words Library” – Fairy Godmother Friday

A few years ago one of Fairy Godmother Colleen’s dear friends, Wendy Wayne, succumbed to non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Though her life here may have ended, a legacy continued.

Wendy Wayne not only left an imprint on Colleen, but also those of many others!

Free Little Library

Two of Wendy’s most dear friends were trying to find a way for Wendy to live on after her death, and with the help of LittleFreeLibrary.org, they found the best way! Honoring a woman who was so much more than an advocate, but truly a soldier in her craft. She not only promoted education, but for everyone to be the best that they could possibly be in order to successfully fulfill their ultimate potential.

Wendy's Words Free Little Library

“Wendy’s Words” is a community outreach which seeks to gain a greater sense of community, while also fostering and promoting literacy and reading.

As you know, Fairy Godmother is always looking for ways to give back to the community that built such a successful (and fun) business for us! What better way than to give to the community, AND honor a legacy that we hold near and dear to our hearts?!

After a little push and inspiration from Fairy Godmother Cassandra, Colleen knew just what to do. She consulted the help of a woodworker who was able to craft and create an exact replica of our quaint little cottage to host our public library.

It all started with a sketch!

20th Street Cottage Christmas Open House – Magical Monday

To kick off December, the Fairy Godmother family celebrated at the 20th Street Cottage Christmas Open House!

20th Street Cottage Christmas Open House

Invitation designed by Matinae Design Studio.

This Open House was unlike anything that the cottage has previously hosted…

The introduction of a new roommate, the unveiling of a newly designed space, and delicious treats and warm cider called for one thing, a Christmas Open House!

The 20th Street Cottage is near and dear to the heart of Fairy Godmother. From the ground up, we have been at the cottage, meeting clients and friends in our office, brewing hot coffee in its kitchen, and celebrating in the yard… but after a few short years, it was time for some change at the 20th Street Cottage.

Coleen reached out to Jamie Urner of Jamie Urner Interior Design Studio, and she was to our rescue! Starting with just our front room and kitchen, Jamie gave life to a dream we didn’t even know we had.

Marvelous color palettes and gorgeous chandeliers were just the start of the 20th Street Cottage‘s makeover. Window coverings, new furniture pieces and artwork completed the look.

Magdalena of Magdalena Portraits debuted her new office as guests made their way through the cottage. Mingling and jingling was just some of the fun!

As if heaters weren’t enough to give you that warm and cozy backyard feel, the 20th Street Cottage now has it’s very own Italian lighting covering the event space!

Courtney of GhilaDolci Bakery had some sweet treats, all in Christmas theme, of course!

What could be better than indulging in some warm cider and gingerbread cookies to kick off the Holiday season?!

How about a surprise chorus flashmob?!

Yep, you read that right!

The Bakersfield Blend Chorus, a chapter of the Sweet Adelines International, surprised guests by breaking out into song while mixed into the crowd. One by one, the chorus joined together before guests and sang only the most beautiful Christmas carols!

In honor of the upcoming 20th Street Cottage Christmas Open House, we are dedicating this “Magical Monday” to all of our previous events!

Our “fairy” first Open House that Fairy Godmother ever held was at our Truxtun Avenue office back in 2013!

This event was held to thank all of our clients, friends, and team for their hard work and dedication to the creation of Fairy Godmother! One of the ways that Fairy Godmother found to give back to the community that helped build our company that we love so much!

We know that our friends and clients love food just as much as we do!

Fairy guests indulged in sweet bites and treats from De Coeur Bake Shop and Cassandra’s Sweet Treats! Fun and festive names were given for the occasion, and could they be any more perfect?!

Don’t forget the fairy dust!

To make the very first Fairy Godmother Open House even more special, there was a special announcement to be made…

What lies beneath…???

This Open House is where the Fairy Godmother Foundation made it’s debut!

While the Open House was one way that Colleen and Fairy Godmother found to give back to the community that built the business, the Fairy Godmother Foundation was even more so!

The Fairy Godmother Foundation donates one wedding to a deserving couple in need. The couple must be facing life altering circumstances that have caused them to otherwise put their wedding day on hold.

Fairy Godmother Foundation

The Fairy Godmother Foundation was born!

After the Fairy Godmother team outgrew their quaint little office on Truxtun, it was time for a move.

Where could we share our fun ideas and quirks with our clients that would still have that same “home sweet home” feel?

Just like magic, Colleen just so happen to drive by a little corner house that needed a little love.

And, you guessed it, some fairy dust!

And of course we would never want our guests to leave empty handed!

The Fairy Godmother team is always thinking of new ideas that are as unique as the event, so when it came time to get the gift bags ready we knew just what to do!

Sprinkles, everywhere!

Our very own Fairy Godmother Cassandra craved something unique for this event, she had dreams of a Christmas tree, but wanted to keep true to the Fairy Godmother brand.

Cassandra’s creative freedom ran free, and she knew just what to do!

Cassandra dressed up our dress form in the perfect Christmas attire, pine branches, a red sash and completed the outfit with Fairy Godmother pearls!

The Fairy Godmother squad loves to celebrate the many friendships that we create through the year, and is there any better way to celebrate than by gathering with friends?!

To celebrate the new interior design of the 20th Street Cottage by Jamie Urner, we would love for you to stop by this year’s Christmas Open House!

There will be sweet treats by Courtney of GhilaDolci Bakery, and we are so thrilled for you to meet our new creative partner at the 20th Street Cottage, Magdalena Cruz!

Welcoming Magdalena Cruz – Fairy Godmother Friday

It is with only the greatest pleasure that we welcome Magdalena Cruz to the 20th Street Cottage!

Before Magdalena was a photographer, she was a mother! Magdalena has three children… Jasmine, Adrian & Cristian and a three month old granddaughter, Camila!

Grandchildren are always so very special, but Camila brought something more unique to her family.

Camila was born with a rare heart disease which not only brought the immediate family closer, but also created a more tight-knit quilt of friends and extended family!

Magdalena Cruz with the famous photographer, Sue Bryce

Magdalena with famous photographer, Sue Bryce.

Magdalena found her passion for photography on complete accident.

When returning to school in 1999, her professors pushed for her to try different paths and guided her through dark room photography and then onto graphic arts where she excelled. In 2001 Magdalena put her passion to work opening her first studio.

Magdalena Cruz Photography

Magdalena Cruz Photography

Magdalena being a California native left a photographer’s footprint on Porterville and Visalia before settling in Bakersfield just a few years ago.

Magdalena says that she is so blessed to have worked with so many different individuals, families, and organizations throughout her career. She credits many of her friendships to these connections, and is so happy to be in profession where friendships continue to blossom.

Magdalena Cruz Photography

Magdalena Cruz Photography

She credits the “family feeling” of her business to the fact that many of her clients return as they begin families, and hit special milestones in their lives. Her strong belief in preserving the “family legacy” is where she feels that full-service photography studios are most important.

Magdalena Cruz Photography

Magdalena Cruz Photography

For Magdalena, it is her belief that photographs are to “live” amongst us, and that a photograph should find it’s way past the computer or phone. This is why she not only captures these timeless images, but also produces the images into products for her clients.

“The journey has just begun!” and we are so excited that we will get to share our cozy little cottage with such talent!

We would also love to wish Magdalena a “fairy”

“HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!”

Magical Monday- Elements Wedding, Eric and Alex

bride getting ready, wedding photography, california weddings, bakersfield wedding cinema, inmotion_0808

Some times things just happen for the best of unknown reasons.

That’s how it was when Alex walked into her first Fairy Godmother meeting. Neither Alex nor Fairy Godmother Reagan had realized prior to the meeting that they had grown up dancing together. It’s funny how things work out! Reagan had the wonderful pleasure of being Alex’s Fairy Godmother and reconnected with her.

_20160222_135527

Fairy Godmother Reagan was their Wedding Day Coordinator and got to be a part of many magical moments. Here is one of her favorite.

The moment Eric, the groom, mentioned seeing a Pinterest photo he wanted to reenact we knew what we had to do. He wanted to be able to hold the bride’s hand without seeing her before the wedding. When the team of collaborative partners was able to make this happen and then add a twist further of turning Alex and Eric towards each other with their eyes closed, the moment was just well…. see for yourself. Epic!
