Our Fairy Godmother team loves to learn new things and make connections. This year, Cassandra and Emma went to the Altitude Summit in Palm Springs at the end of March. It was almost a week long and included four different hotels. Read more to hear what they had to say about it!
Why did you want to go to the Alt Summit?
Cassandra: “I have followed the journey of Alt for longer than I can remember. As a creative and entrepreneur, it has always called to me. I like to push boundaries bring things to life what others might not be able to imagine. I went to explore future creative avenues and potential outlets. I’ve always dreamt in big ways, bold colors and hands on, so I’m excited about what has yet to be created.”
Emma: “I found out about Alt from Colleen. I knew instantly that I wanted to go. I am graduating next year with a Bachelor’s degree in Communications with emphasis in Public Relations and an English minor so this was right down my alley! I was especially interested in the social media aspect because I manage Fairy Godmother’s Instagram account!”
What was your favorite part of Alt?
Cassandra: “It was unreal how genuine everyone was. I was standing in the middle of a huge room with so many attendees waiting in line to get swag and out of nowhere a fellow Alt sister and I got so engrossed in a conversation. I was seriously engaged and inspired by her and everything we were discussing it didn’t matter where we were. That! That right there was my favorite part. At night I would lay and wonder, how can I bring this feeling back to my town with me. Why aren’t people just like this in the grocery store or everywhere we go? I know the reality is that life gets in the way and Alt gives the perfect platform to be so present that conversations and dreams can spark anywhere. But maybe every once in a while I’ll remember to try it out on an everyday scenario and see who I meet and what common goals we might have. Watch out fellow “Bakersfieldians”, I may just strike up a conversation with you don’t be alarmed.”
Emma: “I loved meeting everyone! Every person there was so nice and genuine. You could start a conversation with anyone and instantly have a connection. It is truly a strong positive community! The connections I made were priceless. I left feeling like I had made so many new friends and truly with a full happy heart! I am still making connections with many of the ladies via social media.”
What was one key concept you learned at Alt?
Cassandra: “I’ve always known my worth but at Alt goers encourage you to enforce it and invest your time into your “why” To me that has been a priceless tool. Knowing that not everyone will feel the same way but to believe that success is defined by each individual’s standards.”
Emma: “I took so many classes about social media. There were great aspects that I learned in every avenue of it! I loved learning so much about social media. I also learned at many of the workshops on how to find my “why” on social media. It takes some soul searching, but helps get to the bottom of what your passions are.”
Would you recommend Alt to other people and why?
Cassandra: “Absolutely! There are times where you need a reset and there are times where you need to work and dig and chat over the difficult times of becoming who you’re meant to be. Alt is a place for all of that and more. Creative like minded driven women all present in once place open to possibilities, soaking up knowledge, willingness to share knowledge, inspiring one another, everyone open to give and to take. It’s unreal.”
Emma: “YES! I would recommend Alt to anyone who is interested in these fields of entrepreneurship, branding, marketing, social media, influencing, and ones like that! It was totally inspirational! I loved it and hope I can go back next year!”
What volunteer team were you on and what did you do?
Cassandra: “I was accepted on to the Event Coordination team, I was able to connect with members on my team the day before Alt even started. So, we all felt like we started the week out with instant friends as we saw each other again throughout the week. I aided in getting all of the badges ready for check in, problem solving as small hiccups arose (nothing I’m new to) crowd control as we all eagerly awaited seating for the keynote Joanna Gaines to open up and lunch coordination where among my list of duties.”
Emma: “I was on the Social Media team. I was assigned to work Facebook and I had a certain number of posts I had to do each day and what I needed to post about. It was great because I loved being able to brag about the Alt Summit. I also noticed that my friends and family loved keeping up with my adventures that week via social media.”
