“On a team, it’s not the strength of the individual players but it is the strength of the unit and how they all function together.” – Bill Belichick
At Fairy Godmother, we are always striving to be our very best. We feel education, learning and growth are extremely important. The wedding and event planning industry is constantly evolving and we make sure we are growing with it. It is imperative that we frequently educate ourselves on all aspects of this industry to best serve our clients.
What a treat it was when our Fairy Mama Colleen set up one of our most fun and informative meetings yet. With the help of some of the best vendors in town, it proved to be a really fun and encouraging night. We used our entire 20th Street Cottage office, all four rooms. The Fairy Godmother team was broken up into small groups. Every 20 minutes we would shift the team to the next room.
In our kitchen, room one, Courtney of Ghilarducci Bakery taught our first team the proper way to cut a wedding cake. Not going to lie, there was a little taste testing going on.
In room two we had Jerry, owner of Finos Menswear & Tux. Jerry taught us the correct way to tie a men’s tie and how to properly tie a bow tie. Jerry was so patient with us as we tied and retied the ties.
Over in room three we had Diana, co-owner of House of Flowers. Diana spent time instructing our team how to beautifully craft a traditional boutonniere. Diana then demonstrated how to carefully pin the boutonnieres. Thankfully, we all remained injury free.
In our last room, we hosted Leland of Explorer Travel and Tours. He taught our team all about the best vacation destinations and how we can assist our couples in booking amazing honeymoons.
Cutting a wedding cake, tying a tie, helping book a honeymoon, and making a boutonniere at the last minute are all things event producers often do. This meeting gave us the opportunity to refine our skills, learn new concepts, and educate ourselves on the many responsibilities (both planned and unforeseen!) that come up during a typical wedding.
We would like to extend a very special thank you to Courtney Ghilarducci Dendy of Ghilarducci Bakery, Jerry Gamey of Finos Menswear & Tux, Leland Davis of Explorer Travel and Tours, and Diana of House of Flowers.
Another important thank you to Janaye Joyner of J Michelle Photography for capturing us in action. Thank you to Jenae Bingham of Matinee Designs for designing our invite and Nathan Vasquez of NV Catering for the delicious dinner.
Most of all, thank you to our fearless leader, Mama Fairy Godmother Colleen Bauer, for putting this entire meeting together, we appreciate you.
“Good leadership isn’t about advancing yourself, it’s about advancing your team.” – John C. Maxwell
