As we continue our wedding planning process, we are still 8-10 months out from your magical day!
You’ve selected your wedding gown, bridal party attire, and the majority of your vendor selections… Now, it is time for one of the most fun parts… Gift registry!
Your wedding day gift registry is one of the best things for both you and your potential gift givers. This is a sure fire way for you to not only get things that you may have wanted but also a way to get the things that you may need!
After you have tackled some of your more major tasks in wedding planning, it is important to get your registry done in a fairly timely manner, as your family and friends will look for it as they join you in celebrating your engagement up until your wedding day. Bridal showers, engagements parties, and the list goes on for when you will be showered with love and gifts.
Another important part of putting your registry together is to ensure that you include items for every budget, this will help you accommodate the needs of your guests as they shop for the soon to be newlyweds. This isn’t just something for one of you to do alone, this task is one that you should both share. These are things that should appeal to both of you as they are going to be in your own shared space!
Welcome to 2017. If you haven’t already, please take note that things are a little different than they used to be. A little less traditional and a little more off the beaten path. But the end product is still the same, two people sharing their forever.
With that in mind, it’s time to think outside the box of what is “proper” for your registry. Now, registry items are the things you want and need, personalized just for you! If you already have your fancy dishes and utensils, think outside the box! Do you need a toolbox to clean up the garage? How about a new vacuum? It is totally okay to put these things down! If you aren’t afraid to champagne toast over a new Roomba, don’t be afraid to ask for it.
On the flip side… Be sure to consider what you are selecting for your registry. If you don’t cook or bake, the really expensive kitchen mixer may not be a practical choice. You want to avoid filling your new happy married life home with clutter and things that will only be there for looks. But trust us, we know how tempting it is to go wild when the clerk gives you the fancy price gun to run around the store with.
And, let’s be honest… Even if you give them an itemized list of all the things you may want, they will still struggle. Be sure to leave the cash and gift card avenue open for anyone who feels that it is a better fit for them. Think of all the possibilities!
Finally, thank you cards are an absolute MUST! Weddings can be busy, usually, gifts are opened later in the comfort of your home with your spouse. Therefore, people may not get to see the reaction when you open the super fancy blender that they got you off of your registry that you thought nobody would choose. People want to know if you liked their gift, or even if you got it.
Don’t wait too long to send out the lovely little thank you notes. There’s a fine line around this gray area for thank you cards, a solid date range is roughly two weeks to three months post wedding day.
This is a happy time and a super fun time for you and your soon to be, so register away in a few of your favorite stores!
