The Fairy Godmother team always makes it happen and that is exactly what we did for Isha and Animesh’s wedding in November 2018.
Colleen, Cassandra, and Emma left Bakersfield on Thursday morning to head to Westlake Village for a wedding on Friday morning. We had all just heard of the news of the Borderline Bar shooting in Thousand Oaks which happened that night before and which was about three miles away from the location we were headed to. Once we got to the hotel in Westlake Village, we continuously were watching the news (as many others were) for more saddening information about the mass shooting.
Around 3:00 PM, the fairies noticed a cloud of smoke in the distance. We immediately got on the internet to find out more information and found out that a fire had started. The rest of the night we watched the news as the fire began to spread with the winds blowing at 50 miles per hour. The fairies finally went to bed, but not for long as we were woken up by emergency alarms on our phones about the quick-spreading fire.
Finally, around 2:00 AM, we got out of bed with the smell of smoke throughout our hotel and decided to start to pack up. We were met in the hotel lobby with 80 to 90 other people confused about what is happening and attempting to sleep on the hotel lobby floors and couches. As we began to take our luggage out to the car, we saw a large red glow right past the hotel. That was when we knew it was time to leave.
We evacuated the hotel early in the middle of the night and began to drive anywhere we could to get away from the fires. Unfortunately without knowing the area, we would turn the corner and have to flip and drive the other direction as flames came towards us. We followed the traffic and made it to a safe area away from the flames, as the flames were next to us on the freeway and started to make the car hot.
After getting to a safe area, we knew the wedding must go on, but it would not be able to at our original hotel location in Westlake Village. The fairies decided to move the wedding, the bride and groom, the guests, and the vendors to a different location all by the start time of the morning wedding. After calling over thirty hotels, we finally found a miraculous hotel that would host the wedding and rooms for the guests. The fairies got to work in letting all of the guests, vendors, and bride and groom know about the change in location and that the wedding would go on at The Marina Del Rey Hotel.
We continued on with the beautiful wedding (with only a few hours of sleep) at the new location and are so appreciative of The Marina Del Rey Hotel for welcoming us in our emergency situation!
