Mary Rita Nommensen is a talented seamstress, who can alter and transform wedding gowns, as well as solve any issues that have occurred with a bride’s dress. She not only transforms wedding dresses, but she is also well immersed in the world of fashion. Her journey began after her senior year of high school when Nommensen’s art teacher persuaded her to apply to the fashion and design college, Fashion Institute of Technology, also known as FIT. She was in shock when she discovered she had been accepted! Her journey into the world of fashion and design had officially begun.
During her first year at college, one individual Nommensen became friends with was Michael Kors, an American fashion designer, and creator of the highly known brand Michael Kors. She would collaborate on school projects with Kors during her time at FIT. He would illustrate fashion drawings while she would construct and deconstruct them. Taking apart the items and putting the items back together. Because of their skill sets, they made a phenomenal team.
After graduation, she originally wanted to enter bridal fashion. Nommensen’s first job was in the display department for Macy’s in New York and her first major job was at a suit company called Tahari, which is still in business. She believes the lessons she learned in fashion and life as she was working her way to Bridal fashion were essential for her career and technique as a seamstress.
She established Sew Elegant in 2008 and works out of her home. She has multiple rooms dedicated to her business. She has her sewing and workroom filled with all a bride needs when transforming their dress. Her other room is a dressing room for the brides to change into their dresses before the fitting. The room is large and has comfortable seating for the bride. The bride’s dresses are safely kept in the fitting room as well.
Whether a bride knows how they want to transform their dress or does not know what they want, Nommensen is still able to work with them. She will guide the bride through the process of transforming their dress. Her favorite part about her job is to enhance a wedding dress to make a bride feel their most beautiful and confident on their wedding day. If you’re a bride looking to book A wonderful seamstress, she recommends brides book her three to four months before the wedding.
Fairy Godmother truly trusts Nommensen and her company Sew Elegant because of the talent, skill, and care Nommensen provides for her clients. Fairy Godmother only chooses the best wedding pros for our brides, and Nommensen is truly the best.
