Now that you’ve picked out your location, date, and theme of your big day, your next step is to send out your traditional-paper invites or e-vites. They both will provide an RSVP card for your guests. Whether you’re the bride planning your dream wedding or the guest fortunate enough to receive an invitation, today we’re going to be talking about F.A.Q’s on what they include, and what to do about the guests who forget to RSVP!
The term “RSVP” comes from the French expression répondez s’il vous plaît, meaning “please respond.” Invites are sent out six to eight months before the big day, along with a response card. Traditional RSVP cards will provide a line for the guest’s name, the name of a plus one if mentioned, whether they can attend or cannot attend, and their meal selection for the evening. The RSVP will make it clear who is invited. If it doesn’t mention a plus one, then don’t bring one! There will also include a respond-by date to be mindful of.
How far before the wedding should the RSVP date be due?
About three to four weeks before the wedding date. This will give you enough time to make any last-minute headcount changes and finalize your vendors’ services and prices.
We’ve all been there. When you receive an invitation with an RSVP, pin it to the fridge and promise yourself that you’ll deal with it later. The truth is response cards come with their own set of etiquette and expectations. Responding to an RSVP is very important because behind that you’re trying to finalize your guest count, seating chart, and budget before the big day arrives.
What to do when a guest doesn’t RSVP to your wedding?
Politely remind them to respond through email or text and then by calling. A couple should wait about one week after the respond-by date before calling for a verbal response. You never know maybe they completely forgot! And if you get ghosted it’s probably safe to say they will not be attending!
We hope this helps give you a little more confidence when putting together your RSVPs. We walk our clients through the planning process from beginning to end. Whether it’s as small as an RSVP, we’re here to help make the wedding planning process easier and more enjoyable for you. Planning your wedding should be magical and stress-free.
