Celebrating 25 Years of Dedication: Susan’s Journey at Stockdale Country Club

Celebrating 25 Years of Dedication: Susan’s Journey at Stockdale Country Club

On April 13, 2024, Stockdale Country Club will mark a significant milestone – 25 years of dedicated service from their beloved Susan. A journey that began with late-night shifts at the Red Lion Hotel, weaving through successful entrepreneurship with “Happily Ever After,” and eventually finding a home at Stockdale Country Club, Susan’s story is one of resilience, passion, and commitment.

Early Beginnings: Susan’s career journey kicked off at the Red Lion Hotel, where she made history as their first female night server. Balancing work and motherhood, Susan found the perfect solution in working during the night, allowing her to spend quality time with her children during the day. A decade of dedication at the hotel laid the foundation for what would become a remarkable career.

Entrepreneurial Ventures: Driven by a desire to create something of her own, Susan ventured into the world of party planning and catering with “Happily Ever After.” For eight successful years, she orchestrated unforgettable events at the Bakersfield Racquetball Club, leaving a lasting impact on the local community.

Stockdale Country Club Beckons: Recruited by Stockdale Country Club on multiple occasions, Susan initially declined the offers. However, fate had different plans. Joining as a floor manager and event coordinator, Susan’s role expanded over time. When the club faced challenges with General Managers, Susan’s name emerged as a beacon of stability. Reluctantly, she took the position and held it for four more years while successfully managing the club’s membership.

The Heart of the Job: For Susan, the real joy lies in the members of Stockdale Country Club. Over the years, they have become an extended family. From witnessing families grow up to helping plan weddings and baby showers, Susan cherishes the personal connections she has forged. However, the job is not without its challenges. Managing the emotions of staff and members on bad days and orchestrating funerals require a delicate touch.

A Centennial Celebration: In 2025, Stockdale Country Club will celebrate its 100th anniversary, an incredible feat for the oldest club in the county. The Tevis Mansion, where it all began, stands as a testament to the club’s rich history. The iconic forged iron gate, over 120 years old, has weathered multiple devastating fires, symbolizing the resilience and enduring spirit of Stockdale Country Club.

As Stockdale Country Club looks forward to its centennial celebration, Susan’s 25 years of unwavering dedication stand as a testament to the club’s enduring legacy. Her journey from the Red Lion Hotel to becoming an integral part of the Stockdale family is a story of passion, commitment, and the profound impact one person can have on an institution. Cheers to Susan and the next chapter in Stockdale Country Club’s storied history!
